Not all heels are created equal. The shape and height of the heel change how a shoe looks, how it feels after two hours, and where you can wear it. Here are the main types of heels and when to wear each one.
Heel types at a glance
| Heel type | Comfort | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Stiletto | ★★☆☆☆ | Formal events, date nights |
| Block heel | ★★★★☆ | Weddings, work, all-day events |
| Platform | ★★★☆☆ | Height without the steep angle |
| Mid heel (3–5 cm) | ★★★★☆ | Office, everyday |
| Wedge | ★★★★★ | Outdoor events, summer |
| Clear (PVC) heel | ★★☆☆☆ | Parties – goes with any outfit |
Stiletto heels
A tall, thin heel – the most elegant and the most demanding. Perfect with evening gowns and cocktail dresses. Try the classic Pointed Toe Nude Stiletto Pumps (nude heels make legs look longer) or go dramatic with the Black Suede Stiletto Heels with an 11.5 cm heel.
Comfort tip: an ankle strap keeps your foot from sliding forward, as on the Ankle Strap Stiletto Heels.
Block heels
A wide, chunky heel that spreads your weight, so you get height you can actually stand in. Ideal for outdoor weddings (they don’t sink into grass), work and long events. See the Suede Block Heel Sandals.
Platform heels
A thick sole under the front of the foot reduces the angle of the heel. You get more height with less pressure on the ball of the foot. The Ankle Strap Platform Heels come in sizes EU 34–46.
Mid heels and kitten heels
At 3–5 cm, mid heels are the everyday, office-friendly option. Try the breathable Pointed Toe Mesh Mid-Heel Pumps.
Wedges
A solid sole from heel to toe gives the most stability, which makes wedges great for beaches, garden parties and vacations. Try the Square-Heel Wedge Slide Sandals.
Clear heels
Transparent PVC straps “disappear” against your skin, so they match every dress color. Choose the Clear PVC High Heel Sandals or add sparkle with the Clear Rhinestone Bow Stilettos.
Dance heels
Dancing salsa, bachata or kizomba? Regular heels grip the floor too much. Latin dance shoes have suede soles made for turning.
